All mission-driven organizations have visions of a better world, as created through the work and advocacy of their own organizations – but too often, these visions are nonspecific, or globalized beyond reach [for example world peace].
A true vision statement is an invitation to view the near future as shaped by the organization or agency making the statement, and includes concrete, achievable outcomes.
Properly framed, a vision statement is a North Star for the organization, a guiding point for all major organizational decisions and commitments.Â
A vision statement is also a form of branding that identifies the unique mission focus of the organization and its work.
While it looks deceptively simple, a good vision statement is actually a highly compressed set of ideas and ideals that is compelling to the reader.
